Under the Big Top

What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than randomly going to the circus?

While we were driving to get the guys cigars after dinner, Becky and I saw a circus tent close to where we live. We made Doug drive us by and most to our surprise, we saw elephants and camels! Becky and I decided we had to take Charlotte there the next day (the guys had no interest in checking this circus out). After some Internet research, we figured out it was the Kelly Miller Circus.

We had a blast!!! It was an old school kind of experience. You bought tickets and concessions from the booth and then entered the tent (which is pulled up by the elephants...amazing!).Kids could ride the elephants or the camels though Charlotte didn't want to do either. I, on the other hand, wanted to ride both -- guess I can hope Charlotte will want to ride next year!!! It is just a one ring circus and the crew sets up and takes down everything. The clowns distracted us while this was all happening.

There were lots of different acts. We saw tigers, dog tricks (my favorite, of course), a trapeze artist, a camel show, an elephant show, among others. It was safe to say, all three of us had a blast!

Angela's Baby Shower

It seems like we know A LOT of people who are having or who have had a baby this year. I love to help people celebrate their tiny arrival which is why I helped host a shower for a friend at school/work. Angela is about the nicest person you could meet - sweet, kind, and always laughing. We thought she might have the baby at the shower she is getting so big! She was even having contractions. I helped host with Lauri and Anne Marie so between the three of us, we were able to pull off a great shower in the school library.

Angela and her husband do not know what sex the baby is so we decided to decorate in neutral colors. The table decorations were very cute. Lauri cut out ducks and glued ribbon to them for people to write advice for Angela and Zac.The cake came from Costco and was amazingly delicious! A few people commented on how tasty it was (not to mention what a good deal it was too!). The table looked cute too with a table cloth, flowers, paper goods, and fruit bowls.
Anne Marie sat at the doorway (with an injured foot) and took guesses on the sex of the baby. A baby boy outnumbered a baby girl!Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves!
Angela got many great gifts. People were very generous which I know will help the new parents out tremendously! It was a fun way to spend a Friday afternoon Staff Meeting, that's for sure!

Free! (or almost free)

I was bad and forgot to take pictures of my free treasures but here is a short list of what I got for free this week...

1. Philadelphia Cream Cheese Cooking Spread (from a try-it-free coupon)
2. Grande drink at Starbucks (I am part of their drink club and get a free drink after buying 15 drinks) -- I got a Caramel Light Frappachino -- just 4 Weight Watcher points!
3. Gillette Razor
4. And the biggest free buy from Costco....a case of Shiner Bock, 2 large boxes of Kids Cliff Bars, and 2 large boxes of Organic Fruit Strips. I used our $63 cash back credit to purchase these items so technically we had to spend money to get money back, but in my eyes, that is still free!

Weight Watchers: Week 4 and 5

Since I had two weeks from the last weigh in due to Spring Break, I thought surely I would lose something....yeah....well.....not so much. I gained 2.2 pounds. I was beyond disappointed especially since two people had told me it looked like I have lost weight and my pants were fitting differently.

Yes, I admit, over the weekend trip to Broken Bow, I did NOT follow Weight Watchers but surely 2.5 days of not counting points wouldn't make me gain 2.2 pounds and that was over a week later! Mark and I did P-90x 3 days the first week and 4 days the second week. I also walked 30 minutes each day over Spring Break on the treadmill. I mean, what more can a girl do??? That amount of exercise (for me) is like doing 2-a-days for a high school athlete. This girl HATES to work out!

This is what frustrates me about diets - I start exercising and eating better and I gain weight. I have definitely made better choices since beginning the program and even made extra smart choices this past week. I asked for apple slices at Subway instead of getting my beloved Baked Lays with my dry turkey sandwich and I asked for a fruit cup instead of the yummy chips at Corner Bakery and only ate half of my turkey sandwich there. I mean seriously, why make these sacrifices when I just gain weight back?!?!?!?

So after pouting for an entire evening, I am back on board in hopes of losing the weight I gained last week. Here's to a positive attitude (or at least trying to be positive!).

And, a special thank you to my dear, sweet husband who has forced me to do P-90x with him at night. I am not always the most pleasant exercise partner but he has made it a lot more fun.

Trip to Broken Bow, OK

Mark gave me a trip to Broken Bow, OK for my birthday this year. I really wanted to stay in a cabin (not a rustic one) and enjoy some time away from the hustle and bustle. What made the trip even more fun was that Doug, Becky, and Charlotte joined us! We packed enough food for the entire weekend, loaded up the truck with all our bags, and put Cali (their Labradoodle) in the dog box and away we went!It was supposed to take about 3 hours to get to Broken Bow, but after a dinner stop and Doug reading the map incorrectly, it we got there in 6 hours. There is not a whole lot in Broken Bow except cabins, a Country Store, and some parks. The people watching was some of the best we have ever seen (to put it nicely). The cabin was great! It was complete with a hot tub, grill area, pool table, and fire pit. It was called "A Shore Thing."After putting a very tired Charlotte to bed, we decided to unpack, get some drinks, get in the hot tub and then play a game of Scrabble. We were having so much fun laughing and talking that we didn't realize it was 2am! We decided to all go to bed since we had to get up early with Charlotte the next morning.
Mark, Doug and Charlotte made us a yummy breakfast of pancakes, eggs, and bacon before we ventured out to the park for a nature hike. I love this picture of Charlotte helping Mark in the kitchen! The nature trail was so pretty and so relaxing. The weather couldn't have been any more perfect. None of us had cell phone reception which allowed us to just enjoy one another's company, good talks, and the outdoors. We stopped often on the trail to let Charlotte and Cali (and let's be honest, our husbands) play in the water. Charlotte had so much fun "washing rocks" and throwing rocks. The guys had fun throwing rocks too. Here is a picture of them having a splash competition. Somehow Becky and I got a little damp while this took place....
While leaving the park, we spotted a paddle boat place and we just had to stop. I was, by far, the most excited about this. Each couple rented a paddle boat and away we went. We didn't get a picture of it but Mark pushed me out from the dock before he got in and left me to figure out the boat by myself. This resulted in everyone laughing at me on the dock (Becky was crying she was laughing so hard) and me laughing and freaking out all at the same time. One thing is for sure, paddle boating is a good leg and thigh work out!
After lunch, Becky and I went to the little winery called Girls Gone Wine. It was adorable and so much fun! We were able to taste a bunch of wine and then enjoy two glasses while we shopped, talked, and sat on their patio. And best of all, I found a wine I actually liked! We even got souvenir wine glasses with our purchase. When we came home, they guys had started to cook our yummy dinner. Mark went all out and made shrimp poppers and fried quail legs for appetizers and steak, roasted potatoes, and salad for dinner along with chocolate molten mini-cakes for desserts (yep, didn't follow Weight Watchers on this weekend get-a-way!). My husband is an excellent cook.

As if we had not already had enough to eat, we decided to go ahead and roast marshmallows since it was getting close to Charlotte's bedtime. Mark and Doug got the fire going, well, really just Mark. Doug supervised. This was Charlotte's first time near a campfire so we were on full alert but she had so much fun putting the marshmallows on the stick and then eating them.I am not sure who had more fun roasting marshmallows, me or Charlotte. We had so much fun sitting by the fire while talking and laughing.
It got to be Charlotte's bedtime so we moved the party inside. We competed in a couples pool tournament. I had not played pool since I was in college so I was not very good but I had lots of fun playing! Becky showed off a couple of her cool pool moves (which made me laugh and made the guys roll their eyes). The next morning we got up, cleaned up the cabin and hit the road....without breakfast. Those who know me know that I have to eat. Well, we thought we would stop for breakfast somewhere after getting on the road, but apparently people out there don't eat out very much so we didn't eat until 11am when we finally found a Chili's. Needless to say, I was starving, very grumpy, and chewing on gum while pretending it was a sandwich. After some chips and a burger, I was back again! Mark ordered a chocolate shake and shared some of it with Charlotte who loved it....
We had a WONDERFUL vacation. It is very rare that I don't want to return home after a trip but after this trip, I didn't want to come home. It was relaxing, nothing was planned, the weather was beautiful, we had fun in nature, we ate great food, and we got to spend time with our awesome friends talking about just how lucky we are in life. Sometimes it takes a weekend in the wilderness to remind you of what is important in life.

Most of all, thank you to my amazing husband for planning such a great trip. I loved it and I love you! Can't wait to do it again next year!!!

Weight Watchers: Week 2 and 3

I forgot to post about week 2 so I am combining it with week 3's results!

So far, I am doing just great on the plan. I only lost .6 pounds during week 2 which is sadly about the norm. Every other time I have done this it is around that number. Mark was kind enough to create a yummy WW friendly recipe for venison for me so I could enjoy the fruits of his hunting trip. It was amazingly delicious! WW says you should expect to lose .5 to 2 pounds per week so I am still on track.

Week 3's loss was 1 pound. YAY! Using almost all of my extra points for the week allowed me to enjoy a very good Mexican meal on Friday night complete with chips, fajitas, and a beer. I just had to be a bit more careful and stay at my daily points the rest of the weekend which wasn't too hard.

On to week 4! And week 4 will include some working out since Mark has encouraged, and agreed, to do P-90X with me. I did the first workout last night (with a very bad attitude) but Mark was wonderful and encouraged me along and most importantly, made me do it.

Free! (or almost free)

This couponing girl is back! Now that Mark is back to working and returning home at night, we have to have enough food and toiletries for the both of us!

I made my first stop at Aldi and came home with all of this produce for $19. That is truly amazing. We have enough fruit to last us almost 2 weeks now!I also made a quick stop at CVS and came out with all of this for just $13. It would have been $50 without all the deals and coupons. After I left each store, I felt that coupon high that I had missed so much the past 4 months. Good to be back!!!
